Modular ice maker „Brema Ice“ C 150 HC — 150 kg per day

„Brema Ice“ C 150 HC — modular ice maker, 150 kg a day

The „Brema Ice“ C 150 HC is a modular ice maker: it has no bin of its own and sits on a separate ice storage bin. At 21 °C air and 15 °C water temperature it makes 150 kg of solid ice cubes a day. When the ice in the bin reaches the thermostat probe, production stops; when you take ice out, it restarts automatically.

The machine is available air- or water-cooled, uses the natural refrigerant R290 and has electromechanical controls. Choose the cooling in the ‘Version’ field and the cube size in the ‘Ice cube size’ field. Order the bin — the „Brema Ice“ Bin 200 (200 kg) or Bin 240 PE (180 kg) — separately.

Who it is for

Brema lists hotels, restaurants, bars and nightclubs as the sectors this model is intended for. How much ice it makes in 24 hours depends on the room and mains water temperature (manufacturer’s figures for the 18 g cube):

  • in a cool room (air 10 °C, water 7 °C) — up to 155 kg;
  • under standard conditions (air 21 °C, water 15 °C) — 150 kg;
  • in a hot room (air 32 °C, water 21 °C) — 138 kg.

How much ice you can store depends on the bin: the Bin 240 PE holds up to 180 kg, the Bin 200 up to 200 kg and the Bin 350, available on request, up to 350 kg.

Cube size — chosen when ordering

The C 150 HC makes solid cubes („Ice Cube“) shaped like a truncated cone with slightly flattened sides. They are clear and dense, so they chill a drink without watering it down too much, and the different sizes suit different glasses.

Five sizes are available: D — 13 g, A — 18 g (standard), C — 33 g, E — 42 g and B — 60 g. The machine makes one cube size only, so choose it when you order. The 23 g „B-Qube“ cube is made by a separate model, the C 150 HC „B-Qube“, which we can offer on request.

The Bin 200 and Bin 350 have an 18/8 stainless steel frame and a polyethylene tank, while the Bin 240 PE has a moulded polyethylene body. In all three the ice sits in food-safe polyethylene, and all three are well insulated, so the ice keeps for a long time. The Bin 240 PE costs less, the Bin 200 holds more and is lower, and the Bin 350 holds more than the C 150 HC makes in two days. We sell the Bin 240 PE and Bin 200 in their versions for the C 150 HC; the Bin 350 version is available on request.

Build and controls

The cabinet is made of AISI 304 stainless steel with a „Scotch-Brite“ finish, the internal surfaces are rounded so they are easy to clean, and on the air-cooled version the condenser air filter can be removed and cleaned. The ice is made by a sprayer system; for cleaning, the sprayer bank and pump filter can be taken out and washed.

The controls are electromechanical: the machine is switched on with an ON / OFF rocker switch, water is topped up automatically, and a thermostat whose probe is fitted in the bin stops production when the ice reaches the probe and restarts it when ice is taken out. This machine has no automatic washing and no Wi-Fi. Brema’s catalogue announces a „Brema Connect“ (2.0 Wi) version for the C HC series as coming soon; it is not yet in Brema’s price list, so ask us about availability.

Things to consider

  • The bin is not included: according to the manual, the C 150 HC must be installed on a bin. Choose the Bin 240 PE (180 kg) or the Bin 200 (200 kg); we can offer the larger Bin 350 (350 kg) on request.
  • With the bin and its feet, the whole unit is about 1.8–1.9 m high: 1 820–1 880 mm on the Bin 200 and 1 873–1 933 mm on the Bin 240 PE (our calculation from Brema’s dimensions). Check that there is room before you buy, and leave at least 5 cm of clearance around the ice maker.
  • In a hot room (air 32 °C, water 21 °C) the machine makes 138 kg a day. It works at ambient temperatures of 10–43 °C and water temperatures of 3–32 °C.
  • The supply needs a 16 A fuse; average power consumption is 1 061 W (at 43 °C ambient).
  • Indoor use only — not in damp places or where it may be splashed with water. Never clean it with a water jet.
  • Supply drinking water only. Brema does not allow reverse osmosis or deionised water and advises a cartridge filter where the water is particularly hard.
  • There is no automatic washing: at least once a month the machine must be cleaned and sanitised with the top and evaporator cover removed — a job for qualified staff.
  • There is no drain pump version: water from the ice maker and the bin drains by gravity, so you need a drain below them.

The CB 1265 HC and CB 1565 HC are ice makers with a built-in 65 kg bin: they need no separate bin, take up less room (838 × 743 mm, 1 070 mm high without feet) and are also available with a drain pump or with Wi-Fi and automatic washing (AWS 2.0 Wi version). The CB 1565 HC makes slightly more ice than the C 150 HC — 152 kg a day, and 145 kg rather than 138 kg in a hot room — while the CB 1265 HC makes 134 kg. Choose the C 150 HC when you need to store more ice: up to 200 kg on the Bin 200 or up to 350 kg on the Bin 350.

Installation and connections

  • Power: 220–240 V, 50 Hz, 16 A fuse. Connect the machine to an earthed supply through an all-pole circuit breaker with fuses and a residual current device (RCD); the supply must be able to handle the maximum power shown on the rating plate.
  • Water: cold drinking water, 1–6 bar pressure, 3/4″ connection. Fit a shut-off tap between the water mains and the machine’s supply hose and never turn it off while the machine is running; connect it only with the new hose supplied. If the water contains sand or other solid particles, Brema advises fitting a mechanical filter. The water-cooled version also needs a drain for the cooling water.
  • Drain: gravity drain — the hose (22 mm internal diameter) must not be throttled anywhere and must slope down by at least 15 %, ideally into an open trap.
  • Location: a clean room at 10–43 °C (the machine performs best with air at 10–35 °C and water at 3–25 °C), away from heat sources and direct sunlight; Brema advises against cellars and storerooms. Install it where trained staff can keep an eye on it, and leave at least 5 cm of clearance all round.
  • Bin: the ice maker sits on a Brema bin and is levelled with a spirit level by adjusting the bin’s feet. A qualified technician fits the thermostat probe (reached by removing the right-hand side panel) into the bin’s probe holder — otherwise production will not stop when the bin is full.
  • R290 refrigerant: a flammable gas that is heavier than air. The room must have at least 1 m³ of volume for every 8 g of refrigerant (the charge is shown on the rating plate) and a flat floor with no channels or grilles leading to rooms below, where leaking gas could collect; the machine must be kept away from electrical switches, open flames and hot surfaces.
  • Dimensions: ice maker — 862 × 555 × 720 mm (W × D × H, without bin); packed — 945 × 645 × 980 mm, 128 kg.
  • Handling: always keep the machine upright when transporting, storing or moving it. Even to move it slightly, lift it — do not push or pull it.

The machine must be connected to the water and electricity supply by a qualified technician, and installed, serviced and repaired only by staff qualified to work with flammable gases. These are manufacturer requirements.

Running costs and maintenance

Consumption. Electricity — 20 kWh per 100 kg of ice (Brema’s standard conditions: air 21 °C, water 15 °C). Water — 2 l/kg of ice when air-cooled and 15.8 l/kg when water-cooled, about eight times as much; at 150 kg a day that is about 300 l and 2 370 l. Daily figures are our calculation from Brema’s data.

  • Cleaning and sanitising — at least once a month. Nine litres of a 25 % white vinegar solution are poured into the water basin (the amount the manual’s table gives for this output), and the machine is run for one minute five times, with five-minute breaks — the pump must be spraying the solution. Then the machine is switched off and disconnected from the power and water supply, and the top and evaporator cover are removed: the evaporator, bin and bin door are cleaned with the vinegar solution, and the sprayer bank, pump filter and other removable parts are washed with washing-up liquid and rinsed thoroughly with cold water. Sanitising uses a 200 mg/l sodium hypochlorite solution: it is poured into the basin and the machine is run five times again, the removable parts are soaked in it for 30 minutes and the bin and door are wiped with it, after which everything is rinsed thoroughly with cold water again. Discard the ice from the first five cycles and any ice already in the bin. The manual reserves this work for skilled, authorised staff, and regular complete sanitising for an authorised service centre.
  • Do not use corrosive substances to remove limescale — they can seriously damage the machine and void the warranty.
  • The water inlet valve filter must be cleaned at least every two months by qualified staff. On air-cooled machines an authorised service centre should also clean the condenser at least every two months, and the condenser air filter must be cleaned at least once a month: switch the machine off, take the filter out and blow it clean with compressed air.
  • If the machine will not be used for a while, switch it off, shut off the water, empty the water basin and pump body, and clean the filters.
  • Where the water is particularly hard, Brema recommends a multi-purpose cartridge filter. For such water our shop offers the „Everpure“ 4FC-S cartridge with a QL3 head.
