Lever citrus juicer, 50 L/h
The „Santos“ #70 Evolution is a powerful, robust commercial lever citrus juicer built for intensive use. It has an average output of 50 L/h and a 300 W motor.
The #70 Evolution is at home wherever freshly squeezed citrus juice is on the menu: bars, cafés, hotels, restaurants, cocktail and juice bars, canteens, health food shops and ice cream parlours. The universal cone supplied takes oranges, lemons, limes and grapefruit, and the high spout leaves room for a jug as well as a glass. The manufacturer's manual also suggests the juicer for preparing drinks such as fruit cocktails, punches and syrups.
The juicer is simple to use: once it is switched on, the motor runs but the cone stays still. Pressing the lever engages a patented clutch that sets the cone turning, and when you release the lever, the cone stops. The heavy-duty, quiet asynchronous motor is built for commercial use. A flexible splash guard on the lever makes for quieter running, and seals reduce vibration. The noise level is 65 dB(A) at 1 m, which, according to the manufacturer, makes the juicer suitable for use in front of customers.
Cone, pressing cup and bowl
Every part that touches the fruit — the cone, the pressing cup and the bowl — is stainless steel and removable, so the juicer is quick and easy to clean. The pressing cup is mounted on the lever and presses each fruit half onto the cone.
The spout is 220 mm high, so you can squeeze juice straight into a glass or jug up to 220 mm tall. The glass or jug stands on a removable drip tray with a grid. A glass raiser is available separately from the manufacturer.
The lever is articulated and ergonomic, and the body is painted cast aluminium. Materials in contact with food comply with Regulations (EC) No 1935/2004 and (EU) No 10/2011.
Made in France, the juicer carries the „Longtime®“ label for robustness and durability.
Using the juicer
Before first use, raise the lever all the way, lift off the cone, take out the bowl and remove the pressing cup with a quarter turn. Wash the cone, pressing cup, splash guard and the inside of the bowl with ordinary washing-up liquid. Always wash the fruit carefully before squeezing.
Check that the bowl is properly seated before switching on. Cut the fruit in half and switch the juicer on — the motor starts, but the cone does not turn yet. Place one half on the cone and press the lever down with increasing force for about 5 seconds. Then release the lever, lift it and remove the peel from the cone. Repeat with each half, and switch the juicer off when you have finished.
Do not press down on the fruit with the lever until the switch is at 1 (On), and set the switch to 0 whenever the juicer is not in use.
Duty cycle and safety
The juicer is designed for intermittent use: 5 minutes on, 5 minutes off (EN 60335-2-64). The cycle reflects the time spent squeezing and the break for preparing and serving the drinks. The #70 Evolution is not intended for continuous high-volume production.
The motor has a built-in thermal cut-out and overload protection; if the motor overheats, it stops. If this happens, turn the switch to 0, unplug the juicer and let the motor cool for 25–45 minutes before switching on again. If the motor stalls under load while you are squeezing, release the lever and the motor will start again. If either problem persists, unplug the juicer and call a service technician or an approved „Santos“ dealer.
The waterproof switch has an indicator light, all mechanical parts are earthed and every juicer is tested at the factory after assembly.
Cleaning and care
Switch the juicer off and unplug it before cleaning. It is easiest to clean straight after use, before fruit residue dries on.
Lift off the cone and rinse it under running water. Rinse the bowl with water, which runs out through the spout into a glass placed on the drip tray, then lift the bowl out and finish cleaning it with a sponge. Remove the pressing cup with a quarter turn and wipe it with a sponge as well. Remove the drip tray and grid and rinse them under running water. All removable parts can also go in the dishwasher or be washed in hot soapy water.
Wipe the base and the motor unit with a soft damp sponge and dry them. Never clean the juicer with a water jet or pressure washer, and never immerse the motor unit in water.
The juicer needs no routine maintenance, as the bearings are lubricated for life. Wear parts such as the cone and the pressing cup can be replaced; use genuine „Santos“ parts only. After a long period out of use, clean the juicer and check the power cord, seals and other parts before using it again.
Spare parts are ordered by the manufacturer's part numbers: cone — 70200, drip tray with grid — 70710. Part numbers for everything else are in the spare parts diagram on the ‘Technical Data Sheet’ tab. When ordering, give the model, serial number and electrical data from the rating plate on the underside of the juicer.
Dimensions and electrical connection
The juicer is 240 mm wide, 400 mm deep and 490 mm high, and weighs 13.4 kg. Stand it on a bar counter or worktop sloping no more than 10°, with all its feet resting on the surface. Do not use it outdoors or place it on or near a source of heat.
The 300 W juicer connects to a single-phase 220–240 V supply and runs on 50 Hz or 60 Hz without any adjustment. The juicer comes with a fitted power cord and plug, so no hard-wiring is needed: an earthed socket on a circuit protected by a residual current device (RCD) and a 16 A fuse is enough. Earthing is compulsory, and no other appliance should be plugged into the same socket.
Before plugging in, make sure the switch is at 0 and that your mains voltage matches the rating plate. Never use the juicer with a damaged power cord — have the cord replaced by an approved „Santos“ dealer or a similarly qualified person.
