Centrifugal juicer „Bartscher“ Top Juicer

Centrifugal juicer with an XXL feed chute

The „Bartscher“ Top Juicer is a centrifugal juicer for fruit and vegetable juice. Its Ø 75 mm XXL feed chute takes whole fruit, such as apples, and vegetables without cutting them up first. The motor is rated at 700 W and reaches up to 18,000 rpm.

There are two speeds: speed 1 for soft fruit and vegetables, especially those with a high water content such as oranges or watermelon, and speed 2 for hard, fibrous produce such as apples, ginger, celery and carrots.

The removable parts are dishwasher-safe, and the 2 L pulp container can be emptied without taking the juicer apart. A 1 L plastic jug with a splash-guard lid and a cleaning brush are included.

Feed chute, basket and pulp container

The feed chute is built into the lid. Always push fruit and vegetables down it with the pusher supplied, slowly and with light pressure: pressing too hard gives less juice and can damage the juicer.

The basket spins with the motor: the basket's blades shred the fruit and vegetables, the fine stainless steel mesh holds back pulp and seeds, and the juice runs out of the bowl's spout into the jug.

The pulp collects in the 2 L pulp container. When the container is full, it lifts off and can be emptied without dismantling the juicer, and lining it with a plastic bag makes it easier to clean.

The lid is held in place by a locking arm with a safety device. The juicer only runs when all the parts are fitted correctly and the arm is latched over the lid; releasing the arm stops the juicer immediately.

Preparing fruit and vegetables

Wash fruit and vegetables thoroughly before juicing to remove any dirt and traces of pesticides. For the best-tasting juice, use only fresh produce. Apples, pineapples, oranges, grapes, melons, carrots, celeriac, beetroot and tomatoes are particularly well suited to this juicer.

Thin-skinned vegetables do not necessarily need peeling — you can simply scrub off any dirt or wax with a sponge. Peel anything with a hard or thick skin, such as melons, pineapples and citrus fruit, and remove citrus pips, which can be bitter. Take the stones out of cherries, apricots, peaches, plums and mangoes, and the seeds out of papayas, so that the stones and seeds do not damage the blades in the basket. Cut produce that is too large into smaller pieces, and feed tapering vegetables such as carrots in thin end first.

Some foods are too hard for the juicer, coconuts for example. Starchy fruit — bananas, papayas, figs, avocados and mangoes — is better prepared in a food processor or blender, as its purée can clog the basket. Never put ice cubes or frozen fruit into the feed chute.

When combining fruit, juice the soft fruit first (oranges, for example) and then the hard fruit (apples) to get the most juice. Put fresh herbs such as mint or parsley through between batches of fruit and vegetables or, if there are only a few, together with a piece of fruit or vegetable. Add small fruit such as grapes or strawberries by the handful rather than one at a time. When making several juices, juice beetroot last, as it stains any juice made after it. Apple juice quickly turns brown in the air, so add a little lemon juice. Juice is best served straight away, as it loses flavour and nutrients the longer it stands.

Using the juicer

Before first use, wash all the removable parts (see ‘Cleaning and care’), rinse them in clean water and leave them to dry, and wipe the motor unit and the power cord with a soft, damp cloth.

Keep the juicer unplugged while you assemble it. Stand the motor unit on a level surface and press it down firmly so that the suction feet grip. Fit the pulp container onto its holder on the motor unit. Place the bowl on the motor unit with its pulp outlet over the pulp container, and press the basket into the bowl until it clicks into place. The blades in the basket are very sharp, so handle it carefully. Then fit the lid with the feed chute over the basket, swing the locking arm over the lid and latch it on both sides.

Place the jug with its splash-guard lid under the spout, plug the juicer into its own earthed socket and turn the speed knob to 1 or 2. Put the prepared fruit or vegetables into the feed chute and insert the pusher, lining up the groove on the pusher with the rib inside the chute. Push it down slowly and gently. You can keep adding produce as long as neither the jug nor the pulp container is full.

Keep an eye on the pulp container while you work: when it is full, switch the juicer off and empty the container. An overfilled pulp container can stop the juicer working properly, and pulp that overflows into the motor housing can damage the juicer. When you have finished, turn the knob to 0 and unplug the juicer.

Duty cycle and safety

According to the manufacturer's manual, the juicer is intended for household use only. It must not run for more than 3 minutes without a break; after 3 minutes of continuous running, let it cool down for about 20 minutes before using it again. If 3 minutes is not enough to finish juicing, turn the knob to 0 and let the juicer cool down before carrying on.

Never put your hands into the feed chute — always use the pusher. Keep hair, hands, clothing and kitchen utensils away from moving parts. Only take the lid off once the motor and the basket have come to a complete stop. Do not run the assembled juicer with nothing in it.

Never leave the juicer running unattended. Unplug it whenever it is not in use and before fitting or removing any parts.

Cleaning and care

Unplug the juicer and let it cool down completely before cleaning. Clean it after every use, and take it apart straight after juicing in this order: lift off and empty the pulp container, release the locking arm, take off the lid, lift the bowl with the basket off the motor unit and carefully take the basket out of the bowl.

Wash the bowl, lid, pulp container, pusher and the jug with its splash-guard lid thoroughly under warm running water. Hold the basket under running water and brush the outside first with the brush supplied, then the inside, working anticlockwise. Hold the basket up to the light to check that no pulp is left in its holes. Rinse all the parts in clean water and leave them to dry or dry them with a lint-free cloth. All the removable parts are also dishwasher-safe.

Never immerse the motor unit in water, hold it under a tap or put it in the dishwasher — just wipe it and the power cord with a soft, damp cloth and then dry them. Do not use sharp or metal implements, scouring agents, or cleaners containing solvents or corrosive substances. Reassemble the dry parts before using the juicer again or putting it away.

Spare parts are ordered by the manufacturer's part numbers: basket — 01501453, pusher — 01501451, lid with feed chute — 01501452, pulp container — 015014510, plastic jug — 015014520, splash-guard lid for the jug — 015014521, cleaning brush — 015014522. Part numbers for everything else are in the spare parts diagram on the ‘Technical Data Sheet’ tab. Use only genuine „Bartscher“ spare parts and never try to repair the juicer yourself — repairs and opening the housing are a job for qualified technicians.

Dimensions and electrical connection

The juicer is 210 mm wide, 310 mm deep and 400 mm high, and weighs 4.4 kg. Stand it on a level, stable, dry, water- and heat-resistant surface with plenty of room, in a well-ventilated place and away from the edge of the table so that it cannot tip over. Keep it at least 20 cm away from flammable walls and objects, and do not stand it in a damp or wet place.

The 700 W juicer connects to a single-phase 230 V, 50/60 Hz supply through its own earthed socket — do not plug it into a multi-socket adapter or extension lead. Before plugging in, check that your mains voltage matches the rating plate, and lay the cord where nobody can step on it or trip over it. Never use the juicer with a damaged power cord — the cord must be replaced by the manufacturer's customer service or a qualified electrician.
