Drink mixer with two 0.675 L cups

The „Santos“ #54 is a commercial drink mixer for milkshakes, frappés, cold milk froth, ice cream drinks and all kinds of mixed cold drinks. It comes with two 0.675 L cups and three agitators, and has a 230 W motor.

The mixer is designed for bars, cafés, hotels, restaurants, cocktail and juice bars, canteens, cake shops and ice cream parlours. The #54 mixes and whips liquid or creamy ingredients, so you can make fruit and vegetable juice drinks, punches, smoothies, and drinks with syrup, ice cream or crushed ice.

When a cup is placed on the cup holder, the cup sensor starts the motor automatically; when the cup is lifted off, the motor stops. A knob on top of the motor unit adjusts the speed from 8,000 to 16,000 rpm.

Cups and agitators

The mixer comes with two 0.675 L cups — one in stainless steel and one in clear plastic. The top of each cup is shaped to slide quickly onto the cup holder, and fitting the cup starts the mixer.

Each of the three removable agitators is meant for a different drink: the universal spherical agitator for cold milk froth, the soft rubber agitator for milkshakes and the long-stemmed winged agitator for frappés. The agitators screw onto the motor shaft by hand.

The agitators do not chop or crush anything — they only mix and whip. Do not put ice cubes, frozen food or dry ingredients in the cup: they can jam the motor or damage the agitators. Crushed ice, powders (such as instant coffee or milk powder) and scoops of soft ice cream are fine as long as they make up less than 20 % of the contents and the rest is liquid.

Materials in contact with food comply with Regulations (EC) No 1935/2004 and (EU) No 10/2011, and the manufacturer states that they are bisphenol-free.

Using the mixer

Before using the mixer for the first time, wash both cups, all the agitators and the cone-shaped deflector above the agitator in hot soapy water or in the dishwasher.

Turn the speed knob anticlockwise to the low-speed mark, pour liquid into the cup and fit the cup on the cup holder — the mixer starts at low speed. To increase the speed, turn the knob clockwise. For the first few drinks, start at low speed to avoid splashing.

The manufacturer advises against running the mixer without liquid in the cup. Do not add anything to the cup while the mixer is running, and do not overfill the cup: if it is too full, the drink splashes and may spill over. Most drinks are ready in under a minute.

When the cup is taken off the cup holder, the motor switches off but runs on for a few seconds. Meanwhile, keep the cup centred under the agitator so the agitator and deflector are not damaged. Only pull the cup away once the motor has stopped, so that the drink does not splash.

The cup holder also has a second, lower position: a cup left there does not start the motor.

Safety and troubleshooting

The motor has a built-in thermal cut-out and stops automatically if it overheats after a long run. Unplug the mixer and let the motor cool for 20–45 minutes, then plug the mixer back in and fit the cup on the cup holder.

If a foreign object or hard pieces of food jam the agitator, the mixer also stops automatically. Unplug the mixer, take the cup off the cup holder and set the cup down on the worktop, remove whatever is blocking the agitator and reset the overload protector on the underside of the mixer by hand (Fig. F in the manual). Then put the ingredients back in the cup, plug the mixer back in and fit the cup on the cup holder.

If the mixer does not start, check the power supply and the power cord, and make sure the cup is properly fitted on the cup holder, the top of the cup is undamaged and the area where the cup sits is clean. If the motor keeps running with no cup in place, check that the cup sensor works and that the area around the sensor is clean. Every mixer is tested at the factory after assembly. The noise level is 63 dB(A) at 1 m.

Cleaning and care

Unplug the mixer before cleaning. The mixer is easiest to clean straight after use, before food dries in the cup or on the agitator and deflector.

Wash both cups, all three agitators and the deflector with washing-up liquid or in the dishwasher; do not use abrasive cleaners. Never immerse the mixer itself in water or clean it with a water jet or pressure washer.

To remove an agitator, hold the deflector so that the motor shaft cannot turn and unscrew the agitator by hand; the deflector then comes off as well. When refitting the deflector, line up its two flat faces with the flats on the shaft, then screw the agitator back on by hand.

If drink or food gets onto the cup holder, wipe the holder promptly with clean water and check that the cup sensor still works.

The cups stack inside each other for storage. The bearings are lubricated for life, so the mixer needs no routine maintenance. Wear parts such as the agitators, the deflector and electrical components can be replaced.

Spare parts are ordered by the manufacturer's part numbers: stainless steel cup — 54101, clear cup — 54105, spherical agitator — 54201, soft agitator — 54202, winged agitator — 54203. Part numbers for everything else are in the spare parts diagram on the ‘Technical Data Sheet’ tab. Use only genuine „Santos“ parts. When ordering, give the model, serial number and electrical data from the rating plate on the underside of the mixer.

Dimensions and electrical connection

The motor unit is mounted on a cast aluminium stand. The mixer is 182 mm wide, 186 mm deep and 530 mm high, and weighs 5.75 kg. Place it on a smooth, level surface so that it is stable and the suction feet grip properly. Do not use the mixer outdoors or place it on or near a source of heat.

The 230 W mixer connects to a single-phase 220–240 V, 50/60 Hz supply. It comes with a fitted power cord and plug, so no hard-wiring is needed: an earthed socket on a circuit protected by a residual current device (RCD) and a 16 A fuse is enough. Do not plug other appliances into the same socket. Do not use the mixer with a damaged power cord: the cord must be replaced with a special cord assembly available from „Santos“ or an approved „Santos“ dealer. The mixer is for professional use only.
