Pebble ice maker „Brema Ice“ TB 551 HC — 57 kg per day

„Brema Ice“ TB 551 HC — pebble ice maker for undercounter installation

The „Brema Ice“ TB 551 HC is a compact self-contained pebble ice maker („Ice Pebbles“) with a built-in storage bin, made to fit under a counter. At 21 °C air and 15 °C water temperature it makes 57 kg of ice pebbles a day and keeps up to 10 kg in the bin. When the bin is full, production stops; when you take ice out, it restarts automatically.

The machine is available air- or water-cooled. It uses the natural refrigerant R290 and has electromechanical controls. Choose the cooling in the ‘Version’ field.

Who it is for

Brema lists bars, nightclubs, fast-food restaurants, hotels, supermarkets, medical and spa facilities, and industry as the sectors this model is intended for. How much ice it makes in 24 hours depends on the room and mains water temperature (manufacturer’s figures):

  • in a cool room (air 10 °C, water 7 °C) — up to 66 kg;
  • under standard conditions (air 21 °C, water 15 °C) — 57 kg;
  • in a hot room (air 32 °C, water 21 °C) — 46 kg.

The bin holds up to 10 kg of ice pebbles.

Ice pebbles („Ice Pebbles“)

TB-series machines make ice pebbles of about 8 × 16 × 7 mm rather than cubes. This is compressed ice with a low water content: Brema states 91 % dryness (GB-series ice flakes are 80–82 %).

According to Brema, this ice cools quickly and effectively, keeps cooling for longer and is easy to store, handle and portion. It is particularly suited to muddled cocktails.

Build and controls

The cabinet is made of AISI 304 stainless steel with a „Scotch-Brite“ finish, and the evaporator is AISI 304 stainless steel too. The bin is insulated with HCFC-free material and the internal surfaces are rounded, so they are easy to clean. The water basin is dust-proof, and the condenser air filter can be removed and cleaned.

The controls are electromechanical: the machine is switched on with an ON / OFF rocker switch, water is topped up automatically, and a thermostat stops production when the ice in the bin reaches its probe and restarts it when ice is taken out.

Which model to choose

  • TB 551 HC — ice pebbles under the counter: 57 kg a day, a 10 kg bin, 450 × 620 × 680 mm.
  • For more storage under the counter — the TB 852 HC and TB 853 HC (on request): 90 kg a day each, with 20 and 30 kg bins respectively (800–840 and 910–950 mm high on their feet).
  • For high demand — the freestanding TB 1405 HC: 146 kg a day, 50 kg bin, also available with a drain pump.
  • For ice flakes — the same-sized GB 601 HC (67 kg a day, 9 kg bin).

Installation and connections

  • Power: 220–240 V, 50 Hz, 10 A fuse. Connect the machine to an earthed supply through an all-pole circuit breaker with fuses and a residual current device (RCD); the supply must be able to handle the maximum power shown on the rating plate.
  • Water: connects to the cold drinking-water mains (not reverse-osmosis or deionised water), 1–6 bar pressure, 3/4″ connection. A shut-off tap is needed. If the water contains sand or other solid particles, Brema advises fitting a mechanical filter.
  • Drain: gravity drain into an outlet below the machine — a hose with a 22 mm internal diameter along its whole length and a fall of at least 15 %, ideally into an open trap.
  • Location: a clean room at 10–43 °C (the machine performs best with air at 10–35 °C and water at 3–25 °C), away from heat sources and direct sunlight, with at least 5 cm of clearance all round.
  • Dimensions: 450 × 620 × 680 mm (W × D × H, excluding the 5 mm feet); packed — 505 × 675 × 850 mm, 64 kg.

The machine must be connected to the water and electricity supply by a qualified technician — this is a manufacturer requirement.

Running costs and maintenance

Consumption. Electricity — 20 kWh per 100 kg of ice (measured at 32 °C ambient). Water — 1 l/kg of ice when air-cooled (all the water is turned into ice) and 5 l/kg when water-cooled, five times as much; at 57 kg a day that is about 57 l and 285 l. Daily figures are our calculation from Brema’s data.

  • Maintenance schedule: cleaning (with a 25 % white vinegar solution) and sanitising — monthly; water inlet filter — every two months; on air-cooled versions, the condenser air filter — monthly, and the condenser — every two months (by an authorised service centre). The full procedure is in the user manual.
  • Where the water is particularly hard, Brema recommends a multi-purpose cartridge filter. For such water our shop offers the „Everpure“ 4FC-S cartridge with a QL3 head.
