„Puly Milk Plus®“ — liquid milk system cleaner

Cleaner for automatic milk frothers, steam wands and stainless steel milk jugs. 1 L bottle with a 25 ml dosing chamber.

„Puly Milk Plus®“ is a liquid cleaner made in Italy by „Asachimici“. It removes milk and coffee residues, including the milk protein deposits that build up inside the frother. According to the manufacturer, dried-on milk residues impair the frother’s performance and lead to mould and unpleasant odours.

The product is a blue, odourless liquid that mixes with water in any proportion. It contains a phosphonate (tetrasodium etidronate), a polymer and very small amounts of anionic surfactants; the label describes it as a scale inhibitor. It has been tested and certified by NSF International under Protocol P152, which assesses the health effects and corrosivity of commercial espresso machine cleaners. For professional use.

Directions for use

Dosage. 25 ml of product (one measure from the bottle’s dosing chamber) per 0.5 L of water.

Automatic milk frother (daily):

1. Add 25 ml of product to 0.5 L of cold water. The water must be cold, as the frother cannot draw in hot water.
2. Place the suction tube in the solution and, using the button specified in the coffee machine’s instructions, let the frother draw in all of the solution.
3. Rinse the frother: in the same way, have it draw in at least 2 L of clean cold water.

Make the solution

Add 25 ml of product to 0.5 L of cold water and dip the tube in it.

Start

Start the frother and let it draw in all of the solution.

Cold water

Move the tube to a jug of clean cold water.

Rinse

Start the frother again to flush it through.

Steam wand (daily). Add 25 ml of product to 0.5 L of cold water and immerse the steam wand in the solution. Open the steam valve for 1 second, then keep it closed for 10 seconds; repeat 7–10 times. Then rinse the wand: immerse it in 1 L of clean cold water and again open and close the steam valve 7–10 times.

Make the solution

Add 25 ml of product to 0.5 L of cold water and dip the wand in it.

Open and close

Open the valve for 1 s, keep it closed for 10 s; repeat 7–10 times.

Cold water

Move the wand to a jug with 1 L of clean cold water.

Rinse

Open and close the steam valve another 7–10 times.

Once a week, dismantle the frother completely and soak its parts for 2–3 hours (or overnight) in a very hot solution of 25 ml of product per 0.5 L of water. Use a plastic, stainless steel or glass container — never aluminium. Then rinse the parts thoroughly in clean water, twice. The same solution can be used to clean the steam wand, the milk jug and any other utensils with milk or coffee residues.

„Puly Milk Plus®“ is generally used after every 50–100 milk-based drinks and whenever the machine needs to be restored to proper working order. Even so, the manufacturer recommends cleaning the frother at least once a day as a preventive measure, so that heated milk does not dry into a hard crust that is difficult to remove. If you make a lot of milk-based drinks, clean it twice a day. The product also removes residues of plant-based drinks.

After cleaning, check the result and the smell; repeat the cleaning if necessary. Also check that the seals are intact (replace them if necessary) and that the drip tray drain is not blocked, so that the foam produced during cleaning can drain away freely. If the coffee machine’s instructions specify a different milk system cleaning procedure, follow them.

Safety: the mixture is not classified as hazardous under CLP, but the manufacturer advises wearing rubber gloves and tight-fitting safety goggles, and taking care to avoid splashes of hot water during cleaning. If in eyes: remove contact lenses and rinse immediately with plenty of water for at least 10 minutes, holding the eyelids open; if discomfort persists, see an eye specialist. If medical advice is needed, have the product container or label at hand. Read the label before use. Keep out of reach of children and away from food and drink. Do not mix with other chemical products, and keep away from acidic products. Close the pack tightly after use and store it in a dry, cool, ventilated place away from heat sources and sunlight; do not store below 0 °C.
