Stainless steel soup kettle, 9 L
The „Bartscher“ De Luxe is a 9-litre soup kettle that keeps soup warm throughout service.
„Bartscher“ markets it for commercial kitchens, catering and buffets where soup is kept warm for several hours.
The housing, the removable inner pot and the lid are all stainless steel, and because the inner pot comes out, the kettle is easy to clean. The kettle stands on three feet.
How it works
The kettle works as a bain-marie: the water in the outer tank is heated electrically and keeps the soup in the inner pot warm. According to „Bartscher“, this indirect heating stops the soup from burning even when it is kept warm for a long time. Before switching on, pour 0.6 litres of water into the outer tank, up to the lower mark. Do not add more, or the water may overflow when the inner pot goes in. Using hot water shortens the heat-up time.
The inner pot hangs in the top ring, so the filled pot is lowered into the outer tank together with the ring and lifted out the same way. With the lid closed, the soup heats up faster and less energy is used.
According to the manual, the kettle is intended only for keeping prepared food such as soups, stews and sausages warm — it must not be used for cooking soup or preparing other food or drinks. The manual also states that it may be used in households and similar settings, for example in staff kitchens in shops and offices, on farms, by guests in hotels and motels, and in bed and breakfasts.
Temperature and safety
Set the temperature with the control knob, which has a scale from 1 to 12. The setting is infinitely variable from 30 to 95 °C, so you can match the heat to the type of soup and how long it will be served. According to „Bartscher“, this precise control also makes the kettle suitable for delicate soups and sauces.
The green indicator light stays on while the kettle is heating up. The heat-up time depends on the amount and temperature of the soup and on the temperature of the water in the outer tank.
Never switch the kettle on without water. If it is switched on dry or with too little water, the boil-dry protection switches it off automatically. In that case, turn the knob to 0 and let the kettle cool down, then refill the outer tank with fresh water and switch on again.
Serving
The hinged stainless steel lid turns and folds back to the side, and it also lifts off completely. Fold the lid back to ladle out or top up the soup, then close it again to keep the heat in. The lid has a ladle notch and a heat-insulated handle.
The kettle comes with eight magnetic soup labels in German and English. Stick the right label on the housing so that guests at a self-service buffet can see at a glance which soup is inside; when the soup changes, just swap the label.
After service, turn the knob to 0 and unplug the kettle.
Cleaning
Before cleaning, unplug the kettle and let it cool down completely. Clean the inner pot, the top ring and the outer tank after every use, as salt and spices in spilt food can attack the surfaces. Wash the lid, top ring and inner pot in warm water with a mild detergent, using a soft cloth or sponge, then rinse them in clean water and dry them thoroughly.
Empty the outer tank only once the water has cooled down, as there is a risk of scalding. Wipe the outer tank inside and out with a soft damp cloth. Never immerse the kettle in water or clean it with a pressure jet. Do not use sharp or metal implements, or abrasive, solvent-based or corrosive cleaners.
Installation and power supply
The 400 W kettle runs on a single-phase 230 V, 50/60 Hz supply. The kettle comes with a fitted power cord and plug, so no hard-wiring is needed — just a suitably protected earthed wall socket (not an extension lead or adapter). Stand the kettle in a well-ventilated place on a level, stable, dry surface that is water- and heat-resistant, away from the edge of the table so that it cannot tip over, and at least 20 cm from combustible walls and objects.
Dimensions and accessories
The kettle is 345 mm wide, 345 mm deep and 360 mm high and weighs 4.8 kg. It comes with eight magnetic soup labels.
