Rice cooker, 8 L

The „Bartscher“ A150513 cooks up to 40 portions of rice in one go, then switches to keep-warm mode automatically, so the rice stays hot and ready to serve.

It is designed for restaurant, canteen and other commercial kitchens and for event catering — wherever large amounts of rice are needed, especially at peak times. The keep-warm function also suits buffets, banquets and à la carte service.

The housing is made of stainless steel, and the removable inner pot is heat-resistant and has a non-stick coating. The silicone mat supplied sits on the bottom of the inner pot, so rice does not stick or burn, less of it goes to waste and the inner pot is easier to wash.

Cooking rice

Measure the rice with the measuring cup supplied — one batch takes up to 6 cups of uncooked rice. Wash the rice in a separate bowl, tip it into the inner pot on top of the silicone mat and add water up to the matching mark inside the inner pot: mark 10 for 2 cups, mark 30 for 6 cups (the full table is in the manual).

Seat the inner pot in the cooker, turning it slightly left and right so that it sits well on the heating plate. Then close the lid until it clicks shut and press the ON/OFF switch: the cooking light comes on. Never open the lid while the rice is cooking. When the rice is done, the cooker changes over to keep-warm mode automatically: the cooking light goes out and the keep-warm light comes on. „Bartscher“ recommends keeping the lid closed for another 10–15 minutes to make the rice fluffier.

The cooker keeps the rice warm for as long as it is plugged in, so unplug it after each use. Let the cooker and the inner pot cool down completely before the next batch; otherwise the cooking time is cut short and the rice will not cook through. According to the manual, the cooker is intended only for cooking rice and keeping it warm.

Safety and care

A safety thermostat switches the cooker to keep-warm mode if the inner pot is missing or not seated properly, or if all the water has boiled off.

The lid has a steam release valve. When the lid is opened, condensate runs into a removable container at the back of the cooker; empty it after every use. Lift the lid with care, as hot steam escapes from the inner pot.

Wash the inner pot, silicone mat and accessories in warm water with a mild detergent, using a soft cloth or sponge, and clean the steam release valve thoroughly in warm water after every use. Neither the inner pot nor the housing may go in a dishwasher, and the housing must never be immersed in water — wipe it with a damp cloth. Use the rice fork and spoon supplied for stirring and serving: metal spoons and ladles can damage the non-stick coating.

Installation and power supply

The cooker runs on a single-phase 230 V, 50/60 Hz supply and is rated at 1,950 W. The power cord and plug are fitted, so no hard-wiring is needed — just a dedicated earthed socket (not an extension lead or adapter). Stand the cooker on a level, stable, dry surface that is water- and heat-resistant, at least 10 cm away from combustible walls and objects.

The cooker is 380 mm wide, 470 mm deep and 345 mm high and weighs 10.1 kg. It comes with a measuring cup, a rice spoon, a rice fork and a silicone mat.
