Espresso machine cleaner „Puly Caff Plus®“ Powder, 10 × 20 g
„Puly Caff Plus®“ Powder — espresso machine cleaning powder
For daily cleaning of the group head, solenoid valve, filters and portafilters. Box of 10 sachets, 20 g each.
„Puly Caff Plus®“ Powder is a cleaning powder made in Italy by „Asachimici“ for the daily care of commercial espresso machines. It removes coffee residues and grease deposits from the group head, its shower screen, the solenoid valve and the water passages, as well as from filters and portafilters, and stops unpleasant odours from forming. The manufacturer points out that coffee oils — one of the main components of the crema — oxidise quickly: within 12–18 hours they turn rancid and, with the heat, bake onto the inside of the group, giving the coffee a bitter, lingering taste. That is why the group should be cleaned every day.
According to the manufacturer, „Puly Caff®“ was launched in 1961 as the world’s first cleaner made specifically for espresso machines. It has been tested and certified by NSF International under Protocol P152, which assesses commercial espresso machine cleaners for health effects and corrosivity; NSF lists it among certified products as „Puly Caff Powder“. The manufacturer states that its raw materials are recognised by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The label adds that the powder inhibits scale build-up. For professional use.
Where to use it
- Commercial espresso machine groups — the shower screen, solenoid valve and water passages are back-flushed with a blind filter.
- Filters and portafilters — soaked in a hot solution.
- Brew baskets and servers of filter coffee brewers.
- Cups and teapots — the manufacturer says the powder removes coffee, tea and lipstick stains without harming the porcelain.
How to use
Espresso machine group (daily):
- Fit the blind filter in the portafilter and add 1 teaspoon (3–5 g) of powder. Lock the portafilter into the group.
- Start the brew cycle for 10 seconds, then stop for 10 seconds. Repeat 5 times.
- Remove the portafilter, start the brew cycle and rinse the portafilter with the hot water from the group. Stop the cycle.
- Lock the portafilter back in and repeat step 2 without powder to flush the group. Then fit the normal filter, make one espresso and discard it.

Add powder
Put a teaspoon of powder into the portafilter fitted with the blind filter.

Run water
Run water for 10 s, stop for 10 s; repeat 5 times.

Rinse
Remove the portafilter and rinse it with hot water from the group.

Flush
Lock the portafilter back in and repeat step 2 without powder.
Soaking filters and portafilters (daily): pour 1 L of very hot water into a container, add 10 g (3 teaspoons) of powder and soak the filters and portafilters for 15 minutes. Then rinse them with hot drinking water. Do not use aluminium containers.

Hot water
Pour a litre of very hot water into a container (not aluminium).

Add powder
Add 3 teaspoons of powder and put in the filters and portafilters.

After 15 minutes
Leave the parts to soak for 15 minutes, then take them out.

Rinse
Rinse the parts with hot drinking water.
Filter coffee brewer (daily): put 3–5 g of powder into the brew basket, run 2 L of water through the brewer and wait 3 minutes. Then rinse the basket and the server with cold drinking water.
Cups and teapots (once a month): soak them in hot water with 10 g of powder per litre for 15 minutes. Then wipe them with a clean cloth and rinse with drinking water.
Each 20 g sachet covers 4–6 group cleanings (3–5 g each) or two soaking doses (10 g each).
Warning: causes serious eye irritation (H319). Wear protective gloves and eye or face protection. Wash hands thoroughly after handling. If in eyes: rinse cautiously with water for several minutes; remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do, and continue rinsing. If medical advice is needed, have the product container or label at hand. Keep out of reach of children. Not suitable for aluminium. Close the pack tightly after use and store it in a dry, cool, ventilated place at no more than 40 °C, away from heat sources, sunlight, acids and alkalis.
