„Ascaso“ Coffee Washer — espresso machine cleaning powder

Coffee Washer is a professional espresso machine cleaning powder sold by the Spanish coffee machine maker „Ascaso“. According to the label, it is made in Italy by „Asachimici“ of Vescovato. The powder goes into a portafilter fitted with a blind filter, and water is then run through the group to flush it out. Dissolved in very hot water, it is also used to soak cups and portafilters. For professional use.

The label lists sodium carbonate (15–30 %) and sodium percarbonate (5–15 %).

Where to use it

• Espresso machine group heads — backflushed daily with a blind filter.
• Cups and portafilters — soaked in a very hot solution from time to time.

How to use

Group head (daily):

1. Fit the blind filter (the one without holes) in the portafilter and add 1 teaspoon (6–10 g) of powder. Lock the portafilter into the group.
2. Start the water flow as if you were making coffee and wait 15 seconds.
3. Remove the portafilter, empty it and rinse it several times.
4. Finally, to be safe, brew one espresso and pour it away.

Cups and portafilters (from time to time): dissolve 2 tablespoons (20 g) of powder in every litre of very hot water and leave the cups and portafilters to soak for at least an hour (or overnight). Then rinse them thoroughly with water.

A 900 g tub is enough for about 90–150 group cleans at 6–10 g each (our estimate).

Warning: causes serious eye irritation (H319). Read the label before use. Wear protective gloves and eye or face protection, and wash your skin thoroughly after handling. If in eyes, rinse cautiously with water for several minutes; remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do, and continue rinsing. If medical advice is needed, have the container or label at hand. Keep out of the reach of children.
